In 1982, PT GEOSERVICES was established its coal laboratory under the terms of a Technical Assistance Agreement with the Australian Coal Industrial Research Laboratory (ACIRL). Highly trained and experienced Indonesian staff perform all work in duplicate, in accordance with internationally accepted standards: ASTM, British Standard (BS), and International Standards (ISO), that was the Geoservices coal laboratory begin.

Now, Quality Control is maintained by daily analysis of standard samples, the results of which are presented as “range charts”, and by participation in regular “round robin” testing program. Balikpapan, Banjarbaru, Samarinda, and NPLCT are accredited to ISO 17025.

COAL PREPARATION STUDIES

  • Total moisture

  • Hardgrove grindability index
  • Ultimate analysis
  • Ash analysis
  • Ash fusion temperatures
  • Trace Element Analysis

Balikpapan laboratory also has the capacity to evaluate metallurgical coals, including:

  • Crucible swelling number
  • Gieseler fluidity
  • Gray King Coke Type.

CONSULTANCY
The Technical Advisor for Coal Testing can assist with the design of coal testing programs for either exploration or production samples, and provide expert analysis in the interpretation of the results.

REPORTING
Reporting requirements will be discussed individually with each client. Progress reports can be provided by email or fax. Final reports are provided in hard copy in accordance with the client’s requested format. CD or floppy copies are also available.

The company’s existing laboratories are centrally located for the East Kalimantan and South Kalimantan coal mining provinces. However, special arrangements can be made for the establishment and operation of coal testing laboratories at remote exploration camps and mine sites.
